5/24/12
Hi Mom! (and Dad! and family!)The MTC President wanted us to write a super quick letter to our families to let them know we're alive and safe, etc.--could you maybe scan this to dad? I'll write more on my P-day on Monday.
The last 2 days have probably been 2 of the longest and most exhausting days of my live--I'm beginning to think 8 should be the new bedtime. It's been really good though. It's cool to be bearing and hearing testimonies basically 24/7.
My companion's name is Sister Lin. She's originally from China in a Mandarin speaking area, so she's learning Cantonese from scratch, but has lived in Australia the last 8 years for university studies. She's 29, but totally looks my age! She's nice, and has been helpful to me with the language so far, since she picks it up quicker than I do. It felt like today that I was learning fairly slowly, but then I remembered it's only my second day here and that I've actually learned quite a bit in the last 2 days!
My district's really great--it's us two and four elders. The elders are fun and have been quite hardworking so far. It was funny--they seemed so in awe of us when we told them how much schooling we've done.
I had 3 people ask me if I was related to Uncle Richard today, and of course they were instructors and members of our branch presidency, since obviously I've been hanging with all new missionaries the last couple of days.
Anyway, it's been a crazy but good couple of days! I'll write you Monday! [For that letter, see post "Audrey's a real live missionary now."]
Love,
Sister Heaton
P.S. Can you send this to Amy too so she can put it on my mission blog? Maybe she should add you to contributors on it.
P.P.S. I totally called who our district leader would be AND the other new district in our branch after spending an hour with them in a meeting. It made me feel pretty cool.
