Hi fam!
This week was awesome!
Happy
Birthday to Dad! And thanks Lynda for the pictures! Josh and Connor,
you look so old, it's kind of blowing my mind. Also, Dad's making a face
in one of those pictures that tells me that he is definitely Daniel's
father. Haha.
So this week's been super good! Wong Jimuih, one of
our baptismal date investigators (the 23-year old one with 2 kids), is
doing absolutely awesome!! Yesterday was so full of miracles with her,
it was crazy. We've been a little worried about whether what we've been
teaching her is really clicking, but yesterday really helped me feel
much more at ease about it. Yesterday she was 40 minutes early to
church, which is mind-blowing, because we usually have to tell her we'll
wait for her at 8:20 so she'll come out by 8:45, then ends up leaving for church at 8:50
and getting there right as the meeting starts. So that's miracle number
1! Then she said "Did one of you pray for me last night that I would
get to church on time? Because I woke up way earlier than usual this
morning, and it was like God was getting me up-- I sat up, like a hand
was pushing me up, and I got out of bed and before I even realized what I
was doing, I was getting ready!" The coolest part? I started my fast
for her Saturday night! Fasting and prayer really works!! And she said
"Last night I prayed about whether the church was true, and I got a
really comfortable, warm feeling! I know it's true!" That gave me even
more hope, because lately we've been inviting her to read the Book of
Mormon more and pray about it, but instead she just prayed for herself
to know if the church was true! And got an answer!!! AND she bore her
testimony in sacrament meeting! You should've seen me, I was grinning
ear to ear in the back. In her testimony she said that a few nights
before she had had black stuff coming out of her eye, and she didn't
know what it was and it freaked her out, but then she prayed and felt
really peaceful and went to bed, and in the morning her eyes were all
better, as if nothing had happened! AND THEN to top it all off, we
taught her the law of chastity yesterday, which we anticipated to be the
hardest commandment for her, since she's been dating her boyfriend have
been dating for a few years and have 2 kids together, but she totally
understood why and even agreed with it, and said Heavenly Father is so
great for giving us the law of chastity, and is going to let her
boyfriend know this week that she wants to keep the law of chastity.
She's. So. AWESOME. !!! It's just been miracle after miracle with her.
That girl needs the gospel. I mean, we all do, but she especially does.
We're aiming for her to get baptized by the end of the month! Seriously,
fasting is the most effective thing ever.
I also don't remember if I wrote about Jyu and Tam
Jimuih last week, but Jyu Jimuih is the one who had the better than
perfect reaction to eternal families. We've seen them twice in the last
couple of weeks, and they're already pretty much my favorite people
ever. Tam Jimuih's English name is Alien, first off, which is probably
the awesomest/craziest/funniest English name I have yet to come across,
which is saying something. And both times we've visited they've been
like "Are there more than just Sunday meetings? We want to come to the
church all the time and be with you guys and you guys can teach us more
gospel and it'll be amazing!" Tam Jimuih is so dramatic and hilarious
and awesome, and Jyu Jimuih is so sweet and innocent and just happy--
they're so funny together. They've both already accepted baptismal dates
for August. We also love visiting them, because they live on the side
of a mountain with a gorgeous water-front view-- so beautiful!
We discovered this week that Jim Jimuih is mixing
our church with other churches and deep Chinese traditional spiritualism
a lot more than we thought, which means we're pending giving her
another baptismal date until we get a better grasp of how much really
she understands. Some days she gets things really well, but others she
doesn't seem to get things at all. We found out she thinks Jesus is one
of just many gods, and that he lives at the church so we go there to
worship him, like how Chinese people will go to religious sites to
worship there because they believe the spirit lives there, and she
thinks our tithing money actually goes to Jesus like paper money goes to
other gods Chinese people worship. So we have a lot more work to do
with her than we realized. But it's ok! She came to church this Sunday,
which she hadn't done in a few weeks, which might be why she's been so
confused lately.
Also, I discovered that I'm training again this
move! So I'll get a new companion on Thursday, though it is yet to be
known whether I'll stay in my area or move. We'll see! But it blows my
mind that according to Shelley's reports, there were 1254 sisters in the
MTC as of last Sunday. That's absolutely insane. We have 10 new sisters
coming this week. Sister Pearl is worried to have a new companion, but
she's way more competent than I was when I finished training, so I have
no worries about her! She'll do great!
Thanks for the love and the emails family! Keep
immersing yourself in the Atonement of Jesus Christ every day! Daily
repent-- it's the best!
Love you!
Sister Heaton
