This week was great! Sister Aliaga and I
successfully pulled off planning 2 back-to-back Thanksgivings! Talk
about a miracle! We even made a turkey, and let me just say, it was
probably one of the best turkeys I've ever had. I was shocked. Let's be
real, Sister Aliaga did most of the prep/cooking. But now I know how to
make one tasty! Yay! Our zone members really magnified their callings in
each food item they brought-- everything was so delicious. There were
even 5 homemade pumpkin pies-- the elders having baked a pumpkin for the
filling! Talk about dedication! Then the next day we had our ward
Thanksgiving Party that we organized as a missionary activity, that at
the beginning of the month (and even 2 or 3 weeks ago) was really
unorganized and from the way they were announcing it in church it
sounded like no one was going to come (said in a really apathetic tone,
"well, we have this missionary activity where we'll eat some foreign
food, and I know it's different than what we're used to, but let's
support the missionaries..." which in the past, any activity that I've
worked with that was announced as a member activity did not have many
members show up). But we got some of the sisters sign up to bring food,
even though they were nervous about not knowing how to cook it, this one
master chef sister in our ward to make the turkey (which was super
good, by the way, and her first one too!) and we had 70+ people attend,
which was almost the entire ward! Success! We also had 2 girls from
English class that we've been trying to start teaching come, and on
Saturday we started teaching them! Yay! We prayed a lot for these 2
activities, and Heavenly Father helped us get some miracles! At the
beginning we made Pilgrim and Indian hats, and almost everyone was
willing to make and wear them, and I honestly think that's what made the
party. It was pretty fun.
Speaking of, funny story! So we ended up not leaving the church until 9:27 (for those of you who want to judge, our schedule is a half-hour behind in Asia, so our curfew is 9:30,
not 9), and luckily, we live only a 4-minute walk from the church, so
we ran home. I was still wearing my pilgrim hat, and Sister Aliaga was
still wearing her Indian hat. So we're running, and I pull ahead of her,
and we pass this restaurant where this white girl is sitting out front,
and after we pass, Sister Aliaga hears her say "It's an Indian chasing a
Pilgrim!" After we successfully got home on time (Yes!), Sister Aliaga
told me what she heard, and we about died laughing. It was a fun party!
So yeah, this Saturday after English class we
started teaching Pinky and Candy, these two 15 year old girls who've
been coming to English class for several months and who we've become
good friends with. We weren't ever able to meet with them before, but we
were finally able to this Saturday! Pinky told us that she rearranged
her work schedule so that she could have work off after English class so
she could see us! And she's really interested in coming to understand
her true identity more, and both were very willing and happy to pray and
to start praying this week! We even met Candy's mom after meeting with
them, and she told us she had heard so many great things about us, and
that on her day off she'd love to meet with us! Yay! So many miracles!
It's been a good week!
Love you all! Keep spreading the gospel!
