10/22/2012: Time sure flies when your P-days change

Hi everybody!

Well, it's been quite some time since I last wrote you all, so I thought I'd update you on all the exciting events of the last 3 days. It's been weird having 2 P-days so close together. Really, not much happened, but I did find out one cool thing:

Mom's convert Charles Au is now Bishop Au of the Kwun Tong Ward, we found out from some funny helpful ward members who served in Hong Kong around the same time as Mom. He said he wants to get a picture with me, and compare how much alike me and mom look. Sister Kiene served in the Kwun Tong Ward for 2 transfers, and was so excited when she found out that mom helped baptize him! She was like "He's seriously one of my favorite people ever! He's so willing to serve and help-- he's awesome!!" So now she's been telling any missionaries who've served in Kwun Tong, and they've all been like "Woah! I wish my recent converts were like him!!" Next week is the departing missionary fireside for Sister Kiene and the other elder who is leaving, who currently is serving in Kwun Tong, so Sister Kiene asked the Kwun Tong sisters to invite Bishop Au-- we're hoping the lure of 2 missionaries who served in his ward and mom's daughter is enough of an enticement for him to come to it so I can meet him! Now I'm thinking I have to serve there since I already will have a built in good relationship with the bishop, who after all, is the key to any ward's missionary work.

Sister Kiene and I watched during dinner "On the Lord's Errand," the documentary about President Monson (which can also be found on LDS.org), and it was so good! President Monson is such an amazing example of faith and following the promptings of the Spirit. You should watch it.

Our lessons on Saturday went pretty well-- I really felt the Spirit giving me scriptures to share and specific things to bear testimony of. It was really cool to feel the Spirit speaking so much through me, to the point where words were coming out that I didn't even know where they came from, because they hadn't been in my mind seconds before. The Spirit's amazing.

Also, FIND OUT WHO FROM OUR STAKE GOT CALLED TO HONG KONG!!! That's awesome.

Also, more pictures! Yay! Some chicken feet, Lau Popo! and some other fun Hong Kong stuff.

I figured I'd share a cool spiritual insight I had this week, since I don't have much to write about and it was pretty powerful. I was reading in Alma 24 (I want to say?) about the Anti-Nephi-Lehis, and how when they heard that the Lamanites were coming against them to battle, that is when they gathered together and buried their swords, covenanting never to shed the blood of another person. They then a few verses later willingly go to their imminent death as they prostrate themselves before the oncoming armies in prayer. It just really hit me how well these people understood repentance and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and what incredible examples of faith they are. Instead of justifying themselves in the name of self-defense and taking up arms, when the most was at stake, when their families and friends were all in imminent danger, that is when they covenanted with the Lord to never take up arms again, and then cleaved to those covenants in great faith as they went to their death. They'd rather walk to their own death than risk their salvation and mocking the Atonement of Jesus Christ by taking up their arms after being forgiven of so many murders. It seems that they made this very do-or-die covenant at the time when it would have been hardest to make it, but that by doing so they received the strength of God to do what they had to do. Then their deaths brought thousands more to repentance. If we could all be like the Anti-Nephi-Lehis, this world would be a much better place.

There was also a great talk in Stake Conference on Sunday that said sharing the gospel is easy if you love people. Just say "I love you. Do you love me? Then take the missionary lessons!" So good!

Anyway, that's my last 3 days. :) Love you all!

Sister Heaton
