Hi family!
Thanks for the emails and letters! And thanks to the Kienes, who apparently got me a new shirt too! They're so nice!
This week was good. We began teaching a husband and wife together this week, which in Hong Kong is super hard to do, so we're really excited about them. They are the neighbors of one of the members in our ward. I met the wife at the ward BBQ a couple of weeks ago, and scheduled an appointment with her and her member friend. It was a miracle, as it turned out her husband was home on his day off, even though his work is really busy right now and next week he won't have a day off. They both have pretty much no religious background, but seemed very interested in the blessings of a happy family the gospel can bring. The member's family is also an amazing example, because the parents and all of their kids are such good people. The Spirit was totally there, and we were impressed that even the husband looked interested. It was awesome! We're hoping to see them on Friday night, where we can teach them and their kid, with the neighbor couple fellowshipping, which is pretty much absolutely unheard of here. It's awesome!
We also met a woman on Friday while we were finding who was crying on a park bench, and we just sat down with her and started to comfort her and teach her about the blessings of the gospel, and it really cheered her up. It was cool--it really felt like we were being representatives of Jesus Christ as we comforted those who stand in need of comfort. SHE asked US where the church was. Nice! Unfortunately, when we called her Saturday night she said she was busy on Sunday. I hope we can get the chance to see her again and that she doesn't write off the feelings of the Spirit.
We also met this deaf, blind-in-one-eye old woman on the MTR the other day who works in a public restroom near the church, so yesterday we brought her a Book of Mormon and a bunch of pamphlets. When we gave it to her, she dropped to her knees and started thanking us and thanking Jesus and Jehovah, and just wouldn't stop thanking us after we helped her off the ground. It was quite humbling to see someone so humble and so full of desire to hear God's word. I really hope we can help her as well.
Our investigator Tom is still doing quite well, and we're going to start teaching his sister and her friend this week, teaching English and the gospel. My new dream is to get Tom baptized, and then have him be able to baptize his sister-- it would be so precious!!
It was really cool to hear about the Oakton Stake's experiences with donating to President Calderwood's mission. I'm glad to see everyone is so willing to be a true example of Christian service by clothing the naked and feeding the hungry.
We found out this week that the Elders in the two wards that we serve in will be swapping wards, which is pretty crazy. The assistants were serving in one ward (Cheung Sha Wan), and the office elders (who just got put there) and another set were serving in the other ward (Sham Shui Po). Now the Assistants and the office elders will be serving in Sham Shui Po, and the other set of elders in Cheung Sha Wan. I'm pretty sure it might have something to do with the fact that when President Hawks asked each of the sisters serving in multiple wards which wards they thought needed missionaries, both Sister Kiene and I individually told him we thought Cheung Sha Wan needs a pair of missionaries that can devote their full time to the ward, as they have a lot of potential for growth. I guess President Hawks takes our opinions seriously! So that was our big surprise for the week.
