10/28/2012: Jooooousahn!

Hi family!

This week was great! We got 2 investigators to commit to baptismal dates to help them motivate themselves to do the work necessary to gain testimonies, plus had a few new people at church this week! It's awesome! I feel like the missionary work in our area is finally starting to pick up,

Earlier this week, we had quite a memorable lesson with Lau Pohpo. Haha. She told us in the lesson before that she was too tired to come to the church, so we were going to go visit her at her new apartment in Tze Wan Shan, and she was just going to pick us up from the bus stop. So we go to the bus stop by the church and call her to ask her where to get off, and she says, "I'm here to pick you up!" And about 20 seconds later, we see her dashing across the street, her long hair flying. Then as she's running towards us, the bus we're supposed to get on pulls up, so this 60-something year-old lady who claims she's too tired kicks off her shoes, picks them up, and sprints for the bus. It was hilarious. Apparently, she had meant she'd pick us up at the church, which made absolutely no sense to us, since she told us she was too tired to go to the church. So we ride the bus up to her brand new apartment with her, since we want to be able to find her if we need to sometime in the future. We walk into her new apartment, and found out that she hasn't moved in yet from the bare floor, walls, and complete lack of furniture. All there were was a few containers of clothes sitting in a room. We then found out that she still has her place over in Sham Shui Po, and wasn't going to be moved into her new place until January or February. So we were like "Lau Pohpo, why in the world did you have us come to your new apartment if you're not even living here?" So she laid out a sheet on the floor, and we had a picnic-style lesson/ maybe a super-Asian lesson since we were sitting in the floor. She's so funny. And now we're not going to take any of her "I'm too tired, I'm too old" excuse after seeing her run like that. Hahaha.

We've started teaching this 15-year-old boy named Tom the last couple weeks, and he's keeping his commitments better than most of our other investigators right now! And he came to church on Sunday super willingly! Yay! He's super adorable. He's kind of shy, and his favorite singer is Taylor Swift. Love him! Haha. We teach him English and then teach him the gospel, and he seems to have a very willing heart. Sister Kiene and I feel like all our pent-up younger brother love is coming out on him. It's his birthday this friday, and we've got the kids in the ward to come to the church and we're going to throw him a party after our lesson with him. So fun!

Rex Lee, Erica's husband (the Lee family I talked about in an earlier email) got baptized on Sunday! It was so cool. He's so funny-- he acts like this big tough guy (apparently his job is to break up fights among construction crew workers, and his old usual method was just to knock them out), but just loves his kids and his family so much. This Sunday was the primary program, and he always sits on the front right bench on the end, and he was singing all the words along with his 3-year old daughter, and even doing the motions they were doing for "Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam," while wearing this insanely bright orange and yellow jacket and video-ing it all. It was so funny. About the crazy jacket and video-ing, we were like "it's ok, he's not baptized yet!" haha. But now their family are all embers, so they'll be able to get sealed in a year! Yay!

I also met Charles Au last night! It was really cool. He was super nice. He has 3 boys, one on a mission right now and one who just put his papers in. I gave him our home address and an incorrect email (Sorry mom, I can never remember your email and which parts of it are shortened names, etc, so I'll have the Kwun Tong missionaries let him know), and he wants to write Mom a letter! He was like "Does she know how to read Chinese?" and I was like "Definitely not!" So we'll see how it works out, because I don't know how good his English is. His wife was super nice, and was like "maybe we'll visit your family if we ever go to America!" They both said they really wanted me to serve in their ward, which I hope so too--that would be super cool. They said they'd love us to visit them when you come pick me up from the mission, so you better come pick me up!! It was really awesome to meet him.

Stoked about all the new missionary applications! Our mission's gonna get huge!!

The name Katty Aliaga sounds so familiar-- I know I'll recognize her when I see her in Hong Kong!

Love you family! Try to be like Jesus! Don't all die in that giant storm!

Sister Heaton
