Happy Father's Day! Exciting to hear that Amy went through the temple! Good stuff! Yay!
This
week was not very eventful-- lot's of finding for us! One of our
investigators who never comes for sacrament meeting finally came after
telling us 4+ times she'd come other weeks and didn't show up! YAY!! On
Ching! She just needs to now come every week until her baptismal date
and then can be baptized! Haha. She can do it though!
We have this new investigator we met when we went
knocking doors in the little village across the street from the church
here last week (which is only the 2nd or 3rd time we've ever knocked
doors, so it was really surprising when he let us in-- we were like "no,
you realize we want to come INSIDE and talk about religion, right? And
you're okay with that?" haha.) His name is Mr Leung, and he has some
really interesting beliefs-- his church is called Tindouh, which
apparently believes that all world religions are correct, they just have
different cultural spins, and that there are 5 saviors (1 for each of 5
major world religions, like Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, and 2 others that I
don't know about), and he's super well-versed in the scriptures and the
bible, which is pretty impressive. We were teaching him the plan of
salvation and he was like "correct, correct, correct. Jesus is our
Savior! He performed the Atonement!" and we were like "Yes, but He is
our ONLY Savior-- Buddha didn't do that for us," and he was like
"that's what you believe." We'll just have to get him to really read the
Book of Mormon (He totally felt the Spirit when we read a scripture
about how it's only by and through the grace and mercy and merit of
Jesus Christ that we can live with God again-- 2 Nephi 2:8-9) and to
really pray, and help him be willing to give up the good and better
things for the best things. But he likes to read! So I think he'll
probably get reading the Book of Mormon more. Our fellowshipper was like
"He's a very good man, and very polite, but 5 saviors from religions
that have conflicting beliefs? That just gives me a headache! Too many
things to try and make agree!" Haha.
Last night we had a cool experience while finding.
We started talking to this girl sitting on a park bench, who had at
least been drinking a little bit, and she was like "I don't want to talk
to you," but for some reason both of us felt like we needed to continue
to talk to her. We sat down next to her, and she ended up telling us
about how she had just fought with her husband and her mom has cancer
and she has a kid but she has to work and now her mom can't take care of
him, and how she had just been sitting there for 2 hours and feeling
angry at God for making her life so unfair, and we started testifying of
the Atonement to her, and let her know that God heard her prayers (?)
and sent us to her. We're hoping to see her again this weekend and
really help her know Jesus Christ and use his atoning power to face the
unfair things in life. It was cool. The Atonement is real! Use it!
Love you all! Hope you have a great week!
