8/19/2013: Typhoons, First Steps, and Boy Bands

Nee-men How!
Hi family!

There's some random Mandarin for you, no reason whatsoever.
This week's had a lot of good stuff going on! There was a typhoon this week, which consisted of us having to stay inside until the middle of the afternoon one day while it was completely still outside, and then being told to go out and proselyte as soon as it kicked up. Yay for no-make sense ge typhoon signals! But because of the typhoon, this week has been quite comfortably cool, which we've both enjoyed quite a bit.

Guess what! Wong Jimuih, our investigator who we've been teaching for 5 or so months who has a baby and a little girl who's absolutely silent, accepted a new baptismal date! And almost as exciting, we watched her little baby Lung-lung take his first steps!!!! So cool!! That baby has the strongest legs I've ever seen-- he'd fall over, and himself stand up, without using anything else to pull himself up, most of the time not even his hands! Crazy! Sometimes in lessons he'll be sitting on his mom's lap, and he'll just start pushing on the table with his legs, and literally lift up an entire side of it! These tables aren't light either! Strong baby. And her little girl, Kei-kei, who's always so silent, finally opened up and started giggling and playing with me and talking her little kid talk to me! It was so cute!

Also, I found out now that in addition to pizza, pasta also comes from China, apparently. These people are worse than My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It's hilarious.

We started teaching this new investigator last night that had contacted sisters in another area, and then they gave the phone number to us, which I thought was strange, because he was a man. His name is Edwin, he's in his 50s or 60s, and when he showed up, we found out that he had actually been dropped by the Elders in our area on multiple occasions, a few times after even as short as a month, which is pretty ridiculous. We were laughing as he said all the things the elders did and say-- he totally has us missionaries down! But I don't know why they stopped teaching him, because we had the most fun/interesting (in a good way) lesson I've had possibly on my entire mission. He just thinks about things and asks really awesome questions! I was just feeling like "Yeah! This is what I always imagined serving a mission would be like!" It was fun because we really got to unfold the scriptures to him, since he has something of a background already. I feel like we made some really good headway, and it's making a use of my scriptural knowledge and challenging us, which is so fun! Yay!! It helped remind me why the gospel is so cool-- it really does resolve any question you can even think of! We decided it was definitely the Lord that put him in our path in a weird way, because he seems totally ready. I think some Elders sometimes can just lack patience when they think they've already answered a question and the investigator still has it.

Also, we get to work security at a Mormon boy band concert this week! Crazy, no? They've invited all the missionaries in our stake to go and use it as a finding opportunity-- they're apparently touring to promote good, uplifting music around the world. They're called Beyond 5-- ever heard of them?

Anyway, love you all! Keep on keeping on!
