7/8/2013: Hou loih mouh king

Hi fam!

So I know it's been awhile since I've updated you all, but, these last few days have been pretty good!

So we've had some confusion over On Ching's baptismal date this week. She's totally ready, just needs a couple more lessons and is good to go, but we found out that she goes on vacation for 3 weeks in Mainland on the 27th of July, which means if she gets baptized on the 21st she wouldn't be in town for her confirmation. So either she's going to have to get confirmed on the 21st and get baptized on the 14th (because people usually get baptized after church so people will be there), or else just do the Saturday before and hope that people come. Or, like her mom hopes, the Spirit will work on her to stay in Hong Kong for a few days longer so she can get confirmed. Because if she doesn't get baptized and confirmed before she leaves, she'll have to start her going to church- weeks over again, which means she'd have to wait until sometime in September to be baptized, which just seems silly. We were going to teach her yesterday, but then she got pretty sick and went home from church early. So we're trying to figure out what to do, as we still need to teach her 2 lessons, she needs her baptismal interview, and she hasn't answered her phone yet. Aiya! We need prayers to figure this one out. But it's been really cool with her-- there's been so much of a change in her just in the last 2 or so weeks. She went from seeming unsure and wary about things, to really wanting to be baptized, seeming happy, and just having that look in her eye that says she's ready to make this commitment-- it's the same look that I've seen in Justine's eyes, the girl who got baptized on my first week in Hong Kong and has been staying good! Yay On Ching!

Then we had someone surprise us by showing up at church on Sunday! Brother Lam's 80-something year old mom came to church! She's the one who had us over for their giant family dinner. I guess her grandkids invited her, so she came! She will progress yet! The first time we met her she said "it's not convenient for me to baptized, because I need to baaisahn", i.e. worship her Chinese gods/spirits that protect the house, that really people worship because they're afraid not to rather than any true reverence for them. It was pretty funny, actually. But she likes the church and likes missionaries. We'll keep working on her!

Anyway, there's not much else new or exciting here. Love you all! Be the AWESOME member missionaries that all the apostles and prophet encouraged us to be at the broadcast last week! That broadcast was amazing! And true. Having lots of member proactive initiative is the best way to find and teach investigators and help people come unto Christ and into the church. The members will stay. The missionaries will not. We can't do it alone! So help them!

Love you!
Sister Heaton
